What keeps me up at night re: bitshares is the ability of the chain to resist co-ordinated attacks from whales or state level actors with tons of resources. The value of trustless tokens is tied to their un-censorability. I don't think we are there yet, and I am afraid we will need to be sooner rather than later.

...and by 'attack' I mean changes to the underlying protocol that affect price discovery for trustless tokens too much, placing it in too few hands. How much is too much? Damned if I know. But I think that decentralisation for bitshares is more about robustly protecting trustless tokens as a price discovery mechanism for revealling the true value of an underlying asset. I know many don't think about the peg the same way as I do, but I see variances in the peg as a feature, not a bug.

Certainly. I'm talking about the difference between price and value as a meaningful data point that should be protected. People generally confuse the two as being the same, but they are not, which is the point of markets. Even beyond crypto it's not that well understood. My view of smartcoins is that they allow the market a mechanism to discover the 'true' value of the underlying asset. It plays out most when dealing with terrible currencies.

I'm a developer gathering data for an economist/mathematician (I don't expect him to publish anything, but who knows). Are there a good way to get historical data for the supply of a given asset at a specific point in the past? An example of what we want to do is to chart the supply of ESCODEX.BTC vs BRIDGE.BTC over time. So far I haven't been able to find a better solution than running a full node with Elasticsearch. Based on the docs on Github it sounds like that will require 100+ GB RAM and probably a 500 GB SSD.

I want to know whether BTS++ will handle QR codes. I understand by handle for taking a photo of a QR code (2D code, or something standard) (with BTS address, amount and token) and fill the send form with that information. For me it is a need to be able to make payments that way. The same with NFC codes.

thats exactly the point, the tight peg is maintained by centralised authority dictating what the feed 'should be' not what it actually is- much like BSIP42
